Good Bye 2024 - Hello 2025

 “Just Thinking”

Happy New Year, 2024 is behind us and we are charging straight into 2025. As we repeat our resolutions and set our goals, it is a great time to reflect on some of the events that were 2024, but to remember some major events that are shrinking in the rear-view mirror.

2024 started out pretty rough with the 49ers brutal overtime loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 58. It was an election year and what a crazy roller coaster of a political season it was, the summer conventions and their intense political polarization leading to record voter turnout for a historic election. The Paris Summer Olympics was an amazing celebration of traditional sports with some new additions, like breakdancing, in which Aussie Rachael Gunn stole the show. 2024 was also a big year for the family, Tracy and I celebrated our 35th Anniversary in June, also in June we became grandparents to our happy and healthy Grandson, Beau. The Barberini’s had a good year in 2024.

Some milestones that stick in my mind from years gone by:

It’s been a quarter of a century since the Y2K scare. Leading up to the year 2000, there were concerns stemming from a technical issue in how computers stored dates. There were fears of banking and financial errors, including miscalculated interest rates or failed transactions. Failures in power grids, water systems, and other critical infrastructure. Disruptions to air traffic control and other transportation systems. Malfunctions in embedded systems, such as those in elevators, medical devices, or industrial machinery. Due to some frantic scrambling and preparations by the powers that be, when January 1, 2000, arrived, the feared disasters largely failed to materialize.

It’s been 24 years since September 11th, 2001, when the United States was brutally attacked and started the war on terror. Also, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and implementation of stricter airport screening protocols that are commonplace today.

Remembering the hype and build up to the pomp and circumstance surrounding the country’s bicentennial in 1976, It was a quite a display national pride and historical awareness. Next year we will be celebrating the country’s semi quincentennial, 250th anniversary, another landmark in our great nation’s history.

2010, 2012 & 2014 The Giants are World Series Champions.

1982, 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995 the 49ers are Super Bowl Champions.

1976, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 Golden State Warriors are NBA Champions.

U.S. Presidents in my lifetime: Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden.

It’s been 35 years since the Loma Prieta Earthquake struck during Game 3 of the 1989 World Series between the Giants and the A’s at Candlestick Park. Northern California was decimated and the face of “The City” was changed forever. The World Series was postponed for 10 days, when the games resumed, the A’s behind their 2 all-star pitchers Dave Stewart and Bob Welch swept the Giants.

It's hard to believe when driving to the Caldecott Tunnel that the Oakland Firestorm was over 30 years ago in 1991, the devastation was incredible, but the recovery is even more incredible.

A new year, a good time for reflection, a good time to consider all that you are grateful for and a good time to get excited, because great things are instore for us in 2025.

Let me know what you think.
