Labor Day - Honoring the Workers Who Built America


 As we get together with family and friends for barbecues, parades, and one last big summer weekend, Labor Day gives us a chance to think about something a little deeper... the hardworking people who help keep this country running every day. It's a day to recognize the American worker and appreciate the generations of men and women whose hard work helped build the country we enjoy today.

Labor Day dates back to the late 1800s, when America's factories, railroads, and industries were booming. Workers often faced long hours, tough conditions, and low pay. As labor groups pushed for fair treatment and recognition, the first Labor Day celebration was held on September 5, 1882, in New York City. Thousands of workers marched together to show the importance and strength of the labor movement.

The idea quickly caught on. Oregon became the first state to officially recognize Labor Day in 1887, and other states soon followed. Then in 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed legislation making Labor Day a national holiday, to be celebrated on the first Monday in September each year.

Today, Labor Day is a lot more than the unofficial end of summer. It's a chance to recognize the hard work, determination, and dedication of people in every profession. From teachers, healthcare workers, and first responders to construction crews, farmers, small business owners, office professionals, and service workers, it's the contributions of everyday people that keep our communities strong and our economy moving forward.

As you enjoy the long weekend, spend time with family and friends, and hopefully get a chance to relax, take a moment to appreciate the value of hard work and the people who do it. Every job matters, every effort counts, and every contribution helps make a difference.

  “Just Thinking” I was reflecting on how much the sightline into San Francisco changed over the years, thinking back on the view from the back seat of the family station wagon, so many things have changed and although many of my memories are fuzzy, some are quite clear, I did have to cheat a bit and search some stuff to see what I could find to bolster my recollection in some cases. Is Price the New Location?

Know how “location, location, location” has always been the number one priority (generally speaking) when it comes to buying a property? Well, according to a new Coldwell Banker survey, price is now more important for over half the surveyed consumers (56%), leaving location in second place (50%). Also, according to survey results, women (60%) are more likely than men (48%) to value a home’s price more than its location. But even with the stronger emphasis on affordability, 31% of consumers who bought a home last year (2023) bought their dream home. And among those planning to sell in the future, nearly two-thirds (66%) plan to relocate to a different city, state, or country. While many consumers made their dream home purchase last year, the data show that some desire to seek new horizons.
