Family and Legacy and a New Chapter.
“Just Thinking”
A little this and that for todays “Just Thinking”
Family and Legacy and a new chapter. Our family has grown. Last night, we joyfully welcomed Bella Blaze Barberini into the world. Arriving five weeks early, this tiny peanut simply couldn’t wait to meet us. Though she made an early entrance, Bella is healthy and doing well. She'll be spending the next couple of weeks in the NICU so that the medical team can keep a close eye on her and ensure everything continues to go smoothly. Karissa is recovering beautifully and is in great spirits. And Charlie? He’s absolutely over the moon.
As I reflect on this moment, I’m reminded once again that family and legacy are what matter most. We’re feeling incredibly blessed today.
On This Day in 1970, Apollo 13 launched NASA’s third mission to the Moon with
astronauts James Lovell, John Swigert, and Fred Haise. But just two days into the journey, an oxygen tank exploded, crippling the spacecraft and turning the mission into a dramatic fight for survival. The words “Houston, we’ve had a problem” echoed through mission control and into history. NASA engineers and the Apollo 13 crew overcame the odds and safely returned the astronauts to Earth
Rings and things
We were watching the Warriors the other night, Steph had just hit his 300th - 3 pointer of the season for the 6th time in his career. That got us talking about the Warrior championships, Rick Berry, Nate Thurmond and the current run with Draymond and the Splash Brothers and how nice it would be to get one more. Then we had to check to see how many rings Steve Kerr has; we know of the 4 as coach of the Dubs and 3 or 4 as a player with the Bulls, so we looked it up. Steve Kerr has won a total of nine NBA championship rings—five as a player and four as a head coach. As a Player; Chicago Bulls: 1996, 1997, 1998 San Antonio Spurs: 1999, 2003. As a Head Coach 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
That is a pretty awesome testament to winning, but then you look up Bill Russell; NCAA Champion at USF in 1955 and 1956 with a 33-game winning streak. An Olympic Gold Medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics then with the Celtics, 11 NBA Championships in 13 years the final 2 were as a player coach. His entire basketball career was a masterclass in championship dominance.
If you get a chance, check out Yogi Berra, “It Ain’t Over” on Netflix, hurry, because they are taking it down soon. This is another legacy of winning that will never be matched. As a young 18-year-old, a volunteer in the navy, he landed on Omaha beach on D-Day, he was injured but didn’t report it because he didn’t want his mom to worry. He was already signed by the Yankees at that point, so when he finished his service he exchanged his navy uniform for the pinstripes.
Yogi Berra holds the record for the most World Series championships won by a player in Major League Baseball history, with 10 titles as a player and 3 more rings as a coach. He was a 3-time American League MVP and 18-time All Star and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972. The 90-minute documentary was really a good watch.
Speaking of the Pinstripes, Giants vs Yankees in New York 4:05. Go Giants.
Let me know what you think.
