Movie Songs

 “Just Thinking”

I was in the truck the other day when Born to Wild by Steppenwolf (who I saw at the Civic Center many years ago) came on the radio, after I thought about how cool John Kay was on stage, I thought about Peter Fonda, and Dennis Hooper cruising the long lonesome highways in Easy Rider. That got me thinking that a list of popular songs that were in movies and became synonymous with that movie.

Here's what I came up with:

Top Gun – Maverick and Goose at the Junk Box decide to serenade the girl by singing "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by The Righteous Brothers.

Guardians of the Galaxy – The movie starts with Star-Lord plugging in his Walk Man and hitting play to “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone

The Breakfast Club - “Don’t You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds, is forever tied to the film’s final scene with Judd Nelson’s fist-pump freeze-frame.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - The parade scene in Chicago features Ferris Bueller leading a massive sing-along of this classic “Twist and Shout" by The Beetles.

Dirty Dancing – “The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes - The final dance scene in the film.

Risky Business -the classic scene when Tom Cruise slides across the floor wearing just a white dress shirt, socks, tightie whities, and sunglasses to "Old Time Rock and Roll" by Bob Seger.

Caddyshack - a gopher dancing to "I'm Alright" by Kenny Loggins.

Home Alone - "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee.is playing while, Kevin sets up a fake party to fool the burglars.

Apocalypse Now – “The End” by The Doors napalm explodes across the jungle Martin Sheen reflecting on his mission it is both eerie and captivating

An Officer and a Gentleman – “Up Where We Belong" by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes Richard Gere dressed in his Navy officer’s uniform carries Debra Winger out of the factory where she works.

Ghostbusters is "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr.

True Grit – “True Grit” by Glen Campbell book ends the movie and tells the story.

Although it was never a hit song like the others on the list, how often do we do the Dada-Dada-Dada of the “Jaws Theme” from the movie “Jaws”

I barely scratched the surface, there are so many to choose from.

Let me know what you think.
